McCarthy Styles: Pop/Rock, Funk, R&B, Blues, Folk etc.
Originally from Cork, Ireland, Cian McCarthy is a 22 year old pianist/composer/music director currently based in Boston and New York.
He began studying classical piano at the age of 5 at the City Music College in Ireland. At the age of 16, after spending a year studying with international concert pianist Jan Cap at the Cork School of Music, he won a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. |

While at Berklee, Cian has developed a deep love for vintage keyboards and is an in-demand keyboardist, often playing the B-3 organ and Fender Rhodes as much as acoustic piano on styles that range from Bebop and Soul/R&B to Classic Rock, Blues and Folk.
Cian has performed with Irish jazz artists such as Stephen O' Keefe, Jimmy Canti, Mick Cody and Karl Rooney. In Ireland he has performed at the National Concert Hall, the Ambassador Theater, Cork Opera House and the Half-Moon Club among others. He regularly performs at the Guinness Jazz Festival, Cork, and has performed live on national TV with the rock band Kudos. In the US, he has performed at Ryles Jazz Club, the Berklee Performance Center, the House of Blues and the Reggie Lewis Arena among others and early in 2007, he won the Jazz Performance Award at Berklee.
As a Music Director, Cian has worked on such productions as 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' at the Zack Box in Boston and 'Lucky Stiff' at David Friend Hall. In Ireland: 'Les Miserables', 'Oliver' and 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' aswell as the premiere of 'Dance Overtures' at the Cork Opera House. In 2005/6 he Associate Music Directed the hit pantomime 'Babes in the Wood' at the Cork Opera House. |
